(for colour cosmetics - e.g., eye shadow and bronzers)

Skin Deep pairs ingredients in nearly 25,000 products against 50 definitive toxicity
and regulatory databases, making it the largest integrated data resource of its
kind. Why did a small nonprofit take on such a big project? Because the FDA doesn't
require companies to test their own products for safety.
Another reason to use natural products...
Some of the red lipsticks manufactured in the United States and used daily by millions
of women contain high levels of lead, according to new product tests commissioned
by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, a non-profit coalition.

1. Are Nen’s Naturals products really natural?

We can only answer that with resounding enthusiasm! Our skin care, hair care,
pet care, household and cosmetics products are made from 100% natural ingredients
or ingredients extracted from 100% natural sources by safe extraction methods. We
use as few ingredients as possible so that many of our products must be shaken prior
to use. Our soap products are at least 99% natural but the inorganic ingredients
in them are non-toxic necessities. We like to keep our products as natural and uncomplicated
as possible.
2.
Do Nen’s Natural products contain animal parts?

Nen’s Naturals does not use animal
parts nor are our products tested on animals. We do not even use lanolin (oil from
sheep wool). We only use products made by animals, such as beeswax, silk protein,
and others where the removal of such products does not harm animals, the ecology
of the species or use harmful chemical extraction methods. We do not use carmine,
an age-old colourant found in commercial lipstick and other cosmetics for its red
colour, because carmine is derived from insect wings. We restrict our colourants
to natural sources such as beet root and other vegetable or seed colourants. Our
mineral make-up contains mica mineral pigments and iron oxides, which are non-toxic.
3.
How eco-friendly are Nen’s Naturals products?

Our products are made from renewable
resources. We do not purchase ingredients from sources that do not have re-plantation
programs in place or sources that harvest indiscriminately to the point of endangering
animal and plant species. We want to be kind to nature – look what we get from it!
4.
What about sanitation?

We take precautions to use natural sterilizing methods
for our containers, utensils, and equipment. We sterilize working surfaces, tools,
and other involved elements in producing our cosmetics and toiletries. We take great
pride in our sanitary production environment and, as with everything we do, we do
not use toxic products to keep our workplace clean.
5.
How do I store natural products?

We suggest storing products in a cool place.
The temperature fluctuations associated with taking the product in and out of the
refrigerator can cause condensation to form and mould to develop, so we do not recommend
refrigeration unless your storage areas are very warm. Also, never store the natural
products in containers that we did not provide. Essential oils are potent and can
alter the structure of plastic containers if they are not the proper type of plastic.
Finally, never allow dry products such as powders to be moistened as it will create
a medium in which bacteria can form.
6.
How environmentally friendly is Nen’s Naturals packaging?

Our skin care containers
are made from double-walled glass jars encased in an aluminum exterior. Not only
are they beautifully insulating, they are reusable. Some of our products are necessarily
shipped in plastic bottles, but those are of recyclable PET quality, which means
that the strength of essential oils will not cause the plastic to degrade and emit
harmful chemicals. When shipping easily-damaged products, we use corrugated cardboard,
wherever possible. Our glass bottles are recyclable but need a solid bubble-wrap
cushioning for shipping purposes. Similarly, we wrap our soaps in stretch film because
they are best preserved from drying out and absorbing exterior odours, but our brown
kraft soap boxes make up for it. A recent addition to our gift wrapping is the new
underarm cotton valise which is reusable, recyclable, and very practical. Nen’s
has an excellent track record and is continuously seeking out natural sources of
packaging.
7.
Are there any dangerous ingredients in Nen’s Naturals products?

Absolutely Not!
The caveat is that an individual may be allergic to an ingredient. For example,
people that have allergic reactions to bee products should not use products containing
beeswax, propolis, honey or other ingredients that may cause an allergic reaction.
We stay clear of products that have any observable hazard whatsoever when used properly.
For example, our eye shadow is not harmful if eyes on the eye lids, but may be harmful
if inhaled because the dust may get into the lungs which are not designed to be
invaded with powdery substances. If a product has noticeably discoloured, grown
mould, or developed a pungent odour, your product may be spoiled. In that case,
discontinue use immediately. It is common sense: read labels, be alert to allergens,
store the products in a cool place, be mindful of expiry dates, do not order more
than you can use before the expiry date, and use products in the way they are designed
to be used. Our products are wonderful and safe if you will have to use them responsibly.
8.
What preservatives are used in Nen’s Naturals products?

Our skin care and hair
care products contain natural ingredients that act as preservatives. Vitamin E,
grape seed oil, and various essential oils are known to exhibit preservation abilities.
We only use what we have to, nothing more. As mentioned before, our soaps contain
an inorganic preservative that is non-toxic. We refuse to use any ingredients with
“phthalate” or “paraben” in its name. We do not use mercury-based preservatives
such as thimerosal, or benzoic acid, BHT, sodium benzoate, sorbic acid, talc, quatermium
15, formaldehyde. Our products are as wholesome as they get! Our products do not
present health hazards. Our mission is to give you the best, most natural products
– and we’re good at that.
9.
How are Nen’s Naturals products unique?

We cannot make better cosmetics and toiletries
by mimicking what others are doing – we can do it better by making wholesome products,
using environmentally friendly packaging, and educating our customers – that is
our tri-fold mission and we are adamant about it! Spread the word about our natural
alternatives to commercial cosmetics and toiletries.
